One of the best places to stay in Seward, Alaska

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Alaska. We stayed 3 days in Seward at the Sauerdough Lodge, in my opinion, one of the best places to stay in Seward, Alaska – above the Sea Bean Cafe.

The apartment is large and well furnished. It has been restored beautifully, but still retains that vintage feel and charm. (Think slightly uneven floors – but beautiful original woodwork and vintage kitchen).

The bedroom has a king bed which is VERY comfortable and it has a large closet (could use a bar to hang clothes from though).

There is also a built in cabinet with drawers for your clothes.

There are room darkening blinds in the bedroom which helps with the long summer days – the living room has blinds but not the room darkening kind. However, we did not find this to be a problem. The apartment stayed plenty dark when we needed it to be.

The living space which is large and inviting – has a futon bed and a pull out bed. My son slept on the futon bed and said it was very comfortable. In the living room there is also a large closet that has been equipped with a twin bed. My daughter slept there and loved it! Large enough for her suit case and room to hang clothes and still sleep comfortably.

The only draw back to that space is that it sits directly above the front door entry to the building, so whenever people are coming or going (at any hour of the day or night), you can hear every noise they make.

The living room has an attached dining area with a large table. There is a TV, with cable in the living room as well. Apartment has WIFI but as with much of our trip to Alaska – cell service and WIFI were a little temperamental – but generally the WIFI in the apartment worked well.

The kitchen is adorable and well equipped. We tended to eat our meals at the local establishments, but if you were inclined to cook for yourself – you certainly could.

The bathroom was neat and clean and served our purposes well. We could have used a few extra hand towels while we were there – (might be worth asking for them if you have more than two people).

The location of this unit can’t be beat. Right in the heart of downtown Seward. Walking distance to the Sea Life Center and multiple restaurants and shops. There was never a problem with parking in the general area of the building. If I ever return to Seward – I will certainly stay at this location again.
